The 31-year-old, who suffered a big fall-out with the selectors earlier this month, has decided to finish with the game and is understood to be considering business opportunities.
"Adam is a gifted player who has worked hard at his game and his fitness," said Martin Sneddon, chief executive of New Zealand Cricket. "His athleticism and natural instinct as a gloveman have been outstanding features of his game. "Adam has served his country and his team-mates over a 12-year period at the highest level. "His contribution deserves the highest praise and recognition from New Zealand cricket fans." He needs just four dismissals to claim 200 victims in his 78th Test and become only the eighth wicketkeeper in Test history to reach the landmark on his home ground. Parore announced he was taking a rest from cricket after an exhausting tour of Australia late last year, during which he achieved his highest Test score of 110 at Perth. Fast bowler Daryl Tuffey was also named in the squad, while opening batsman Matt Horne and pace bowler Chris Martin have been dropped. Adams has already represented the national side in 12 one-day games. Tuffey, another one-day specialist, took seven wickets recently in one first-class innings. One-day all-rounder Chris Harris is also in the squad - if he plays, he would probably replace paceman Ian Butler.
