"Freddie (Flintoff) came in and played absolutely magnificently and got the rate up and it was important I tried to give him as much of the strike as possible."

Skipper Nasser Hussain revealed that England had changed their approach after watching Michael Bevan's match-winnings for Australia against New Zealand in Melbourne earlier in the week.

He said they had started looking for fours and sixes too early in previous games and were trying to be more patient.

"We watched that game from Australia, the way Michael Bevan played. We all learnt a little bit and we're trying to delay our final onslaught," Hussain commented.

"Getting runs on the board is the key to any one-day game. That we managed to post a good score made it easier for the bowlers."

Hussain praised Giles for the way he bounced back from a mauling by Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly in his initial spell.

"It was a display of great character to come back the way he did," Hussain said.

The two sides now head for to Bombay where England will try for another win to share the series before on to New Zealand for the second leg of their winter programme.

"It makes it exciting now, doesn't it. We're pretty confident, we know we can beat them. We're looking for 3-3," Knight added.
