Boon scored more than 11,000 runs in 15 years as Leicestershire batsman

Tim Boon has left Leicestershire to take up the post of head coach of the England Development Programme.

Boon, 48, whose exit from Grace Road after five years as head coach was announced in September, will focus on England's Under-19 side.

He said: "It is a role that will enable me to work with the best young cricketers in the country."

Boon has coached the England Under-17 and Under-19 teams, and was assistant coach and analyst for the senior side.

The Yorkshireman, who also played for Leicestershire for 15 years as a batsman, will be based at the National Cricket Performance Centre in Loughborough.

He said his experience with the Under-19s, the full England side and Leicestershire would help him work in partnership with all county sides to develop young players.

Boon added: "I look forward to working in a world-class environment with highly motivated coaches and to the many challenges that lie ahead."
