'Fairytale' ending to Leicestershire season - Tim Boon

Leicestershire head coach Tim Boon, who is to leave Grace Road, says his side had a "fairytale ending" to the season.

Boon, currently negotiating the terms of his departure as he is still under contract, saw his side finish fourth in County Championship Division Two.

He told BBC Radio Leicester: "It has been a fairytale ending - to see all the young guys do so well.

"I am so proud of these young lads that are now maturing into genuinely good first-class cricketers."

Leicestershire have had a traumatic season off the field, with chief executive David Smith stepping down in June, while Boon and captain Matthew Hoggard also led calls for chairman Neil Davidson to resign.

Boon is now being tipped to take up a role as England Under-19 manager.

"To finish fourth in the manner that we have is a fantastic thrill for me," said Boon.

"The club will always have special memories for me and there's a lot of friends and acquaintances I admire and think a lot of."
