Spinner Giles played in the first two Ashes Tests in Australia |
England's Ashley Giles admits he will probably miss the entire summer as he recovers from a long-term hip problem. Last month the 34-year-old Warwickshire spinner flew to Colorado for a third operation on his right hip.
"If everything goes to plan it will probably leave under a month left of the season," Giles told Five Live.
"You have to ask yourself, 'Is it worth pushing for that, risking going back a step, or do you just hang on and work hard during the winter?'"
Giles, who had been hoping to regain his England place this summer, will see a specialist in June to assess his condition.
"It is particularly frustrating. I can't put a timeline on that. I've just go to keep working hard, keep my chins up and keep smiling," he added.
Giles did not play for his county last season because of a similar complaint.

He returned to England's team for the first two Ashes Tests but was forced to return home when his wife was diagnosed as suffering from a brain tumour.
He was then overlooked for the World Cup in the West Indies in favour of Monty Panesar, before experiencing further hip discomfort on Warwickshire's pre-season trip to the Caribbean.
