England captain Marcus Trescothick reckons a strong day from his team on Tuesday could set up a victory charge for the tourists in the Multan Test.
Pakistan fought back on day two, when they bowled England out for 418 and reached 125-2 in their second innings.
But Trescothick said: "We are on the right side of it. There are still two days to go. If we play well tomorrow it can set up the game for us."
Of his superb 193, he added: "I feel very good and very switched on."
Without his innnings, England would be in deep trouble by now.
Trescothick, standing in for the injured Michael Vaughan, said that concentration had been an important factor in his seven-and-three-quarter hour innings.
"I'm trying not to get too carried away really, just trying to watch it hard, play it late and try to concentrate as well as I can."
Not all England's batsmen were able to support him, however.
"We didn't quite get the amount of runs middle to lower order that we would liked," said Trescothick.
"Ideally we would have liked a lead of 180 to 200.
"But if the guys chip in in the second innings and someone picks up another hundred we still have a chance of winning the game."
England struggled to take wickets towards the end of the third day.
Trescothick said: "The wicket has really died down
"It didn't bounce much, it didn't spin. Whether or not it stays like that I really don't know.
"There are a lot of footholds but we didn't see the same bounce for our spinners as we did in the first innings.
"But they played pretty well, put us under pressure and didn't really let our bowlers settle."
