CHRIS READ
Wicketkeeper; right-hand batsman

FACTFILE
Chris Read
DOB: 10.8.1978
Team: Nottinghamshire
Test debut: v New Zealand, Edgbaston 1999
ODI debut: v South Africa, Goodyear Park 20000

Read was touted as Alec Stewart's successor three years ago when he was drafted into the team.

The sight of him being bamboozled by a Chris Cairns yorker at Lord's damaged his credentials and he went back to the county circuit.

But he never gave up the hard graft needed to get back onto the international stage and his efforts have been rewarded with a second call up.

His chances were helped no end by Rod Marsh being invited to join the selection panel.

The former Australian wicketkeeper was impressed by Read's ability behind the stumps during his spell with the Academy in the winter of 2002/03.

His batting helped him earn the first chance to claim Stewart's spot in the one-day side, and a good showing should see him take the Test berth as well.
