Yorkshire's director of cricket Martyn Moxon believes his side have exceeded expectations in the County Championship this season.

Yorkshire go into Tuesday's four-day game at Essex leading second-placed Nottinghamshire by 21 points, but Mick Newell's side have two games in hand.

Moxon told BBC Radio Leeds: "I think the team have exceeded expectations.

"We have played some really good cricket and we've just got to keep it going now."

Yorkshire were unable to replicate their Championship form in the FP t20 competition, as they failed to reach the knockout stages.

"Everyone in the country is capable of beating each other, you can't take it for granted and we're going to have to work hard," added Moxon.

"Nobody within the group is getting carried away, we know we've not achieved anything yet but it really has been pleasing to see the way the lads have played so far."
