Worcestershire may have no overseas player - Rhodes

Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes
Rhodes has been in charge at New Road for five seasons

Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes says the county may not be able to afford an overseas player for the 2011 season.

Australian Phil Jaques and Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan helped Rhodes' men win promotion from County Championship Division Two last season.

"At this stage we need to know a bit more about what our exact budgets are," Rhodes told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"We need to know what money we have for an overseas player."

Rhodes added: "It is tough for us. Our budgets have been cut again, which means it's hard work getting a quality overseas."

We are still hoping we can get someone in, but we have no names at the moment

Opener Jaques scored 465 runs in eight Championship matches for Worcestershire while Shakib took 35 wickets and scored 358 runs in the same number of games.

"We were very happy with our overseas players last summer, in many ways they were not the most expensive," said Rhodes.

"Shakib did very well for us. He is available for a short stint in the middle of the season, so that could be something we investigate.

"We are still hoping we can get someone in, but we have no names at the moment."
