Andrew is averaging over 34 in County Championship cricket |
Worcestershire all-rounder Gareth Andrew has said his Mongoose bat has proved a success, after some pundits criticised him for using it. The bat is made up of a longer handle and shorter blade, and Andrew had recorded three consecutive ducks with it earlier in the season. But he told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "I'd been using it through the winter in the nets and it worked nicely. "It's such an easy bat to use and helps when the ball needs to go further." Andrew hit five sixes as he blasted 66 of just 26 balls against Glamorgan in their first CB40 win of the season. "It acts like a driver when you play golf ," he said. "You have more weight at the bottom. "It gives you a pendulum effect and you get more bat speed, without trying to hit the ball as hard as possible." Andrew has been included in a 12-man squad for the County Championship game against Northampton starting at Wantage Road on Wednesday, 25 August (1100 BST). Paceman Allan Richardson who missed the County Championship win against Surrey has been included in the squad. There will be full commentary of Northamptonshire v Worcestershire on BBC Hereford and Worcester on 738 am and online.
