Substitute Simon Richman's late winner moved Worcester City level on points at the top of Blue Square Bet North.
Danny Glover set up strike partner Mark Danks to give City a third-minute lead but Hinckley skipper Gavin Strachan's deft curler equalised within a minute.
Winger Matt Birley restored City's advantage from close range on 8 minutes but a Jack Roberts header deep into first-half stoppage time made it 2-2.
Hinckley wasted several chances before Richman headed home on 81 minutes.
City manager Carl Heeley told BBC Hereford and Worcester:
"We were fortunate, I don't think we played very well. I don't think we played well in the second half but we will take the win.
"That said we didn't get any luck in the first game here. The problem we had was Hinckley dominated the second ball in the second half, and we didn't have too many opportunities in the second half.
"But the ball in from Tom Thorley (for the winning goal) was a great ball in. It's good to be standing here and criticising little things, but we have won."
