Kabir has played one Test and 14 one-day internationals for England

Worcestershire have released fast bowler Kabir Ali from the final season of his contract at New Road.

The 29-year-old England international rejected a new three-year deal with the club in the summer and was given permission to speak to other counties.

Kabir agreed terms with Hampshire, but Worcestershire would not let him move without £60,000 compensation.

He refused to take part in pre-season training and, following a board meeting on Monday, has been allowed to leave.

"We have taken what we believe to be a pragmatic decision and we wish Kabir well in his future career as he seeks to regain his England place," Worcestershire chief executive Mark Newton told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"There is no point in having anyone who does not want to be here.

"It does not matter if it is sport or business, if the relationship breaks down there is no point trying to force it through.

"The club is happy with the final outcome. The squad can now prepare for the season knowing what the situation will be."

Newton also confirmed that the money saved on Kabir's wages will not be immediately reinvested in to the Worcestershire squad.

"We will not be seeking a replacement mainly because there isn't anyone who is available.

"But the board has said that the money we have saved will be put aside for cricket.

"I think life is going to be hard for cricket in the next few years and we feel those funds will be available if the right player becomes available in he future."
