Rhodes has a short list of overseas players. |
Worcestershire say they are set to bring in an overseas player for next season as some of their highest-paid players have now left the club. The New Road side have found the cash following the departure of Steve Davies, Steven Moore and Gareth Batty. Director of cricket Steve Rhodes said he was already looking at options. "The goalposts have moved a bit and we have some money, not pots of dough, we won't be bringing in Ricky Ponting," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester. Rhodes says he may use two players to share the overseas berth, bearing in mind that such players are often only available for half the season. "The amount of international cricket played next year may mean a split for an overseas player," he added. "That might also mean a split of different roles at different times." Wicketkeeper Steve Adshead, who left Gloucestershire on Monday, is expected to be signed by a new county, with Worcestershire high on the lost of possible takers.
