Worcestershire have secured a new team sponsorship for the next two seasons but will not name the company until their photocall on 14 April. Commercial director David Leatherdale said there had been no shortage of interest in taking over from former sponsors Apollo 2000. "After announcing we were looking for a replacement, the number of responses we have had has been pleasing," he said. "To have signed someone up as quickly as we have is especially pleasing." Apollo 2000 went into administration last month which left Worcestershire seeking a replacement at very short notice. Leatherdale said despite the current economic climate, there was no shortage of interest, with 14 companies making initial enquiries, three of which then went on to submit formal offers. | Clearly the cricket club and Worcester is seen as a major outlet to get across a message for some major companies |
"All those that we have met certainly see sport as being a very positive way of getting the message across of what they are about and what they are looking to do," he said. "There are obviously still businesses out there that are successful even in difficult times. "It's really positive and clearly the cricket club and Worcester is seen as a major outlet to get across a message for some major companies." While they were clearly keen to get a new team sponsor in place as quickly as possible, Leatherdale said the club had to be satisfied it could meet the aspirations and needs of potential partners before any contract was signed. Explaining why they are not announcing the new sponsor until 14 April Leatherdale added: "We really would like to announce it to the public to make sure we get as much credibility for the company and ourselves. "It has been a very quick decision over the last couple of weeks and we would like to show our appreciation to the people who are coming on board for the efforts that they have put in."
