Moeen pens extended New Road deal

Worcestershire batsman Moeen Ali has signed a three-year contract with the New Road side that will take him through to the end of the 2011 season.

The 21-year-old from Birmingham's contract would have run out this year.

Director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Moeen is young and talented - we want to see him flourish with us.

"He has already proved his worth but he has a great opportunity to cement a regular place in the team this year following Graeme Hick's retirement."

"I am delighted he has committed his future to Worcestershire," he added.

Following his move from Warwickshire, Moeen he played a crucial role in the County's NatWest Pro40 triumph in 2007 when he partnered Steve Davies at the top of the order.

Their 151-run partnership in less than 17 overs helped secure victory in the deciding match at Bristol.

Moeen said: "I want to repay the faith that the club, and Steve Rhodes in particular, have shown in me.

"New Road is an exciting place to be at the moment and I'm delighted to be part of a team that I believe can do well in all formats of the game."
