Maggoffin took 23 first-class wickets for Worcestershire |
Worcestershire's overseas player Steve Magoffin says he would love to return to the club in the future. The Australian paceman signed off from his New Road contract by helping Worcestershire to a 10-wicket win against Leicestershire at Grace Road. "I have really enjoyed my time with Worcestershire," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester. "They are a great set of lads, it's a superb club, and I would be happy to return some day." The 28-year old admitted he would have liked to play the full season at New Road, but Western Australia coach Tom Moody has insisted he returns to prepare for the Champions League games in India. "I have learned a lot from playing in England, particularly about Twenty20 as I had played hardly any cricket of that sort. | "I tried hard with Tom Moody to get a bit of breathing space but Tom's put his foot down and as we all know it's a big foot. |
"It has been different, with the grind of county cricket, as opposed to the four-day games in Australia where you get plenty of down-time to rest. "But I would love to get another crack at it, and the club have been brilliant." Worcestershire director of cricket Steve Rhodes says Magoffin has been a pleasure to work with: " His style of bowling has been disciplined and effective. "I think he's a lot better bowler than when he arrived, and the experience has been good for him." And Rhodes tried to persuade New Road old boy Moody to allow him to keep Magoffin for a few more games. "I tried hard with Tom to get a bit of breathing space but he's put his foot down and as we all know it's a big foot. "I can see why he wants him back fully fit to play for Western Australia. That's his priority and I fully understand that." Worcestershire are yet to find an overseas replacement for Magoffin after West Indian bowler Fidel Edwards pulled out of a move on medical advice. "It is difficult, and I keep going to dead ends and cul-de-sacs," Rhodes said. "Then something else opens up, but I seem to spend all my life on the phone."
