Westwood looking for T20 progress

Warwickshire captain Ian Westwood feels his side have a good chance of reaching the quarter-finals the Twenty20 Cup.

Back-to-back wins over Gloucestershire and Glamorgan mean the Bears may only need one more success from two their last two games.

Westwood told BBC WM: "We said we needed to win three of the last four and we've had a good start."

Warwickshire travel to Worcestershire on Friday before their final group game at home to Somerset on Sunday.

The Bears chased down a target of 149 to beat Glamorgan by four wickets at Edgbaston on Tuesday, spurred by a start of 84 runs from their six power play overs.

"We like to come out hard and try to get the run rate down as quickly as possible, and we did that," said Westwood.

"We lost a few more wickets than we'd like just after that, and that made the game a bit closer. I suppose you live by the sword and die by the sword."

The Warwickshire medium-pace bowlers proved difficult to score off, with youngster Stef Piolet conceding just 19 runs from his three overs.

"Those kind of bowlers, especially here at Edgbaston where the cutters and slower balls just seem to grip a little bit, can be very effective," added Westwood.

"Stef's been doing a great job for us and he's continually one of our most effective bowlers."

Friday's trip to New Road could decide the Bears' fate in the competition, and Westwood is relishing the prospect of the derby atmosphere at New Road.

"There's always an added bit of spice against those boys," said the Bears skipper.

"We beat them here so they'll be looking to come hard at us again. The crowd is always quite raucous there - they'll give us a bit of gip."
