Warwickshire improved their hopes of making the last eight of the Twenty20 Cup with a routine seven-wicket win over Gloucestershire at Bristol.

Jeetan Patel (3-15), Rikki Clarke (3-20) and Ant Botha (3-31) all got in the wickets as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 141 at Nevil Road.

Jonathan Trott, supported by Ian Bell's 42, then knocked off the runs with ease, unbeaten on 73 out of 144-3.

Trott has now hit 312 runs in seven innings at an average of 62.40.

After just one win from their first five games in this year's competition, 2007 finalists Gloucestershire started the night with little hope of progression to the last eight.

But, although they have reached the semi-finals of this year's Friends Provident Trophy, again they struggled in the shortest form of the game.

David Brown top scored with 33 as they were bowled out with two balls to spare in the final over.

And Trott then closed the door, hitting a six and 10 fours in his 73 off 52 deliveries (his third half century in this year's competition) as the Bears got home with 23 balls to spare.

The Bears are in action again on Tuesday night when they play Glamorgan at Edgbaston (1730 BST).

Gloucestershire, whose already slim qualification hopes were ended by this defeat, are also in action on Tuesday evening against Mids/West/Wales group leaders Northants at Wantage Road.
