Wells has represented England at Under-19 level |
Sussex batsman Luke Wells says his father Alan, who played for the county for 15 years, has helped his career get off the ground. Luke followed up his maiden first-class century against Durham with a score of 100 in the draw against Hampshire. The 20-year-old told BBC Sussex: "My father is obviously really proud of me. He's always the one there to fall back on if things go wrong. "He's given me a lot of advice and is a massive part of my career." Luke's uncle Colin also played for Sussex, and he hopes to emulate both family members. "I'm very proud to play for Sussex and follow in their footsteps. It lifts me," he continued. "Hopefully I can have as good a career as they both did." Wells, who made his first-class debut in the final match of last season, has been an ever-present for Sussex in the County Championship this year. "The coaches have backed me this year by playing me from the word go and thankfully I've been able to show them I am good enough," he added. "I'll just keep practising, keep doing what I am doing and hopefully scoring more hundreds for Sussex in the future."
