Sussex have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old left-handed batsman Luke Wells on a summer contract basis which will keep him at the club until 2012. Wells, currently studying at Loughborough University, scored his maiden second team century this year and is the son of former captain, Alan. "I am obviously very excited about this fantastic opportunity that I have been given," Wells said. "It is what I have been striving for since I started playing the game." He added: "I realise that this is the first stepping stone on to bigger things and the real work starts from here on in." Sussex club coach Mark Davis said: "Luke is a young cricketer full of potential and talent. It's exciting for both him and the club and we look forward to him joining the squad next summer. "Luke impressed in the Academy and Second XI this year - scoring a great hundred, which is a fantastic achievement for someone so young. We're hopeful that he'll kick on and become the player that we know he can be."
