Still too much cricket, says Sussex coach Mark Robinson

Sussex cricket manager Mark Robinson says there are currently too many games in the season.

Despite a revamp to competitions over the winter, this year sees the earliest ever start to a campaign.

"We play too much cricket. Whether you reduce the Championship or the one-day cricket that's up to the powers that be," Robinson told BBC Sussex.

"We need to create some windows for the players to recover and practise. Then we'll improve the standard of cricket."

Sussex will play 16 Division Two fixtures this season along with games in the Twenty20 Cup and ECB 40 League.

Sussex captain Mike Yardy added: "I think it's about quality. I don't think it's about losing a huge amount of games."

"We just need to lose a little bit to make sure we can have people firing at 100 per cent throughout the season."

Sussex start the County Championship season away to Glamorgan on Friday.
