Davies has appeared in one ODI international for England |
Surrey wicket-keeper Steven Davies has said he is delighted to be selected in England's Twenty20 and one-day international squad to play Pakistan. The 24-year-old has been picked alongside Somerset keeper Craig Kieswetter in the Twenty20 squad. But he is the sole wicket-keeper in the ODI side. "I'm over the moon, I felt I might have been close [to the squad], but you never really expect these things," Davies told BBC London 94.9. He added: "I've performed consistently all season and I'm really looking forward to it." | Davies has had an excellent year for Surrey this season and has earned his chance to take on the role |
Davies' selection means he will be ruled out for the rest of the Surrey season, missing the Clydesdale Bank 40 matches against Worcestershire Royals and Sussex Sharks, and County Championship matches with Glamorgan and Gloucestershire. Speaking about Davies' selection, national selector Geoff Miller said: "Steven Davies has had an excellent year for Surrey this season and has earned his chance to take on the role as wicketkeeper in England's limited overs set up. "As ever the wicket-keeper's role is a fiercely contested position and we've no doubt Craig Kieswetter will continue to press for the chance to reclaim his place in the England ODI squad."
