Davies averages just over 37 in first class cricket
Steven Davies says playing for England was a major factor in his move from Worcestershire to Surrey.
The 23-year-old wicketkeeper was called up to the Champions Trophy squad and is in the test squad to tour South Africa.
Davies told BBC London 94.9: "I want to play for England and to do that I need to be scoring a lot of runs with Matt Prior doing so well.
"So the wicket was a massive pull for me and the coaches - Alec Stewart for keeping and Graham Thorpe for batting."
He added: "Obviously Chris Adams [Surrey's cricket manager] was a great leader and will manage the team brilliantly.
"There aren't many teams with coaching staff like that so I'm going to try and make full use of that and work with them as much as I can and hopefully progress my game.
"I had a few counties interested in me but as soon as I spoke to Grizz [Chris Adams] and [Surrey's managing director] Gus Mackay, I knew this was the place that I wanted to play.
"It's a big club with big ambition and it's great to be a part of it."
Davies scored just five runs in the semi-final of the Champions Trophy against Australia when he took the gloves with Prior injured, but the left-handed batsman says he's more than ready to make his test debut if required in South Africa.
"It just takes one injury so I've got to be ready," said Davies. "It's a good chance for me to impress in the nets and the warming up games or whatever I'm involved in."
