Davies set to quit Worcestershire

Worcestershire wicketkeeper Steven Davies will leave New Road at the end of this season.

The 23-year-old England Twenty20 international, who is wanted by Surrey, has decided not to renew his contract at New Road.

Director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Having been involved with Steve's development since the age of 11 I am naturally quite disappointed."

Surrey declared their interest in Davies by making an approach in June.

Rhodes added: "The most important thing is that the club must move forward and we will be searching for a suitable replacement.

"We respect his decision and hope that he has a very successful cricketing career with his new county and with England.

"He will always be welcome at New Road and will remain an integral part of our plans for the remainder of the season."

Worcestershire had offered the young Kidderminster man a new three-year contract. But he indicated last summer that he would like to keep his options open when the time came to renew his deal.

Davies made his international debut in a Twenty20 clash with the West Indies in March.
