Nel is in hot water for the second time in a month |
Surrey have suspended South African seamer Andre Nel for two matches after another show of indiscipline. Nel, who received a two-game ban from the England and Wales Cricket Board at the end of April, was found guilty of a level two breach of the ECB code. The incident occurred in this week's win over Northants at Wantage Road, in which Nel played a starring role. The 32-year-old fast bowler apparently threw the ball in the direction of Northants batsman Niall O'Brien. Nel, who made a career-best 96 to trigger Surrey's seven-wicket win, has also been fined £5,000, half of which is suspended for the remainder of his Surrey contract. Surrey managing director Gus Mackay said: "The way we conduct ourselves on and off the field is of utmost importance to us. "Breaches like this can't go unpunished. We have to be firm and consistent in our stance regarding improper behaviour that can bring the club and game into disrepute." Nel's ban covers the County Championship matches against Glamorgan (29 May-1 June) and Leicestershire (4-7 June).
