Surrey begin Abu Dhabi challenge

Butcher hopes to play in Abu Dhabi as he recovers from a knee operation

Surrey aim to warm up for the new county season by winning the Pro ARCH Trophy in Abu Dhabi.

The tournament involves six County Championship sides, as well as a United Arab Emirates and Fly Emirates XI.

Skipper Mark Butcher said: "It will give us the opportunity to start improving on our one-day cricket."

New Surrey batsman Michael Brown told BBC London 94.9: "We're looking forward to getting some sun on our backs, and playing some competitive cricket."

The nine-day tournament, which starts on Tuesday, also includes Middlesex, Sussex, Essex, Lancashire and Yorkshire.
