Benitez looks for Gerrard inspiration
Rafael Benitez is ready to gamble on Steven Gerrard's fitness as Liverpool try to overturn a 3-1 Champions League deficit against Chelsea on Tuesday.
Gerrard has a groin strain but trained on Monday and manager Benitez said: "It is not a massive risk if we use him.
"If we lose a player for 10 to 14 days it will be bad but would only affect one game. It's a calculated risk.
"We've been written off but with Steven and Fernando Torres together on the pitch we have a good chance."
Liverpool go into Tuesday's quarter-final second leg at Stamford Bridge trailing 3-1 from the first leg but Benitez is refusing to give up hope, citing past performances as grounds for optimism.
We will not be complacent - Hiddink
He picked out Liverpool's 2005 Champions League final victory over Milan, when the Reds came back from 3-0 down, and his side's 1-0 Premier League win at Stamford Bridge in October.
"The experience of Istanbul will help us - it shows you can come back from a big score - and we have already won at Stamford Bridge this season. We ended their long unbeaten home record and that is a massive boost to our confidence," he said.
"We can do it if we work together and score an early goal. If we score a second they will be under real pressure and you can score three goals in eight minutes like Bolton did on Saturday.
"We know that we can score goals away against the top sides and although it will be very difficult to exploit Chelsea's weaknesses, we know they can make mistakes.
"But this is a Champions League game and we don't need to talk too much about motivation."
Torres, who scored against Chelsea at Anfield in the first leg, believes the Blues will not sit back and defend their lead.
"They will want to score themselves and that will give us a chance," the Spaniard said. "Chelsea will play for the win. If they score one or two, it will be over."
Defender Jamie Carragher added: "Chelsea played very well at Anfield but over the last couple of months we have been the form team in the country and we know we can do it."
