Somerset's Peter Trego targets full England honours
Trego is in his second spell at Somerset having first joined in 1996
Somerset's Peter Trego says he has already set his sights on full England honours after being selected for the England Lions one-day side.
Trego, 28, will travel with the Lions to the United Arab Emirates next month where they will play eight games.
He told BBC Radio Bristol: "As soon as I got the call I wasn't thinking about the Lions tour. I was thinking about doing well to get into the main side.
"That is the reason we are on the Lions tour is to get into the main side."
Trego continued: "That's my goal and I'm just doing everything I can to put myself in a position to get the white three lions on rather than the red ones.
"We're playing for England against Pakistan while we're out there but I suppose it's almost a competition within a competition.
"We all want to be the next guys who get called up if there's an injury or loss of form in the full side.
Six years ago the Somerset all-rounder could not even get a game for his county and was having to hold down day jobs to get by.
"It was in 2004 and I didn't play any first class cricket and it was at that point it could have gone either way," said Trego.
"But I never lost doubt in how good I was or could be and as a sportsman if you don't think you're good you'll never make it.
"And you need to have people around you who believe in you and fortunately I've had those people with my family and the club."
To be quite frank we've all had enough of it. It's about time we got some of the winner's medals and that's certainly what we'll be aiming for

Trego played a key part in Somerset's domestic success in 2009 as they finished runners-up in the Twenty20 Cup, came third in the County Championship Division One and second in the Pro 40 competition.
With the county having signed Australian all-rounder Cameron White and Indian spinner Murali Kartik, he is looking forward to an even better 2010.
"We pushed hard for honours in all competitions last year and played bridesmaids," said Trego.
"To be quite frank we've all had enough of it. It's about time we got some of the winner's medals and that's certainly what we'll be aiming for."
