Marcus Trescothick
Trescothick will take over as Somerset captain next season

Marcus Trescothick has been named the most valuable player for 2009 by the Professional Cricketers' Association.

The Somerset opener scored 2,934 runs across all competitions to earn 50 more points than his nearest challenger and former team-mate Ian Blackwell.

Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter was third in the table.

Former England international Trescothick, 33, was the top run-scorer with 587 more than Warwickshire's Jonathan Trott.

Points were awarded for a number of factors including batting, bowling, fielding, captaincy, games played and games won.
