Caddick appeared in 62 Tests for England between 1993 and 2003 |
Wiltshire manager Neil Shardlow thinks the presence of former England bowler Andy Caddick in the team will help improve some of their younger players. Caddick, 40, is playing in Wiltshire's current Minor County Championship game to prove his match fitness to Somerset. Shardlow told BBC Wiltshire: "We're hoping his being here will rub off on some of our youngsters. "He's running in and bowling as best he can so he can prove to the Somerset selectors that he's ready to go again." Shardlow added: "He's sitting in the changing room and cracking jokes and having a laugh with the lads as well." Wiltshire are hoping Caddick may even be available to play for them against Oxfordshire in the quarter-final of the MCCA Trophy on Sunday 14 June. "Basically it comes down to whether he's selected to go to Headingley with Somerset in their County Championship game," said Shardlow. "If that doesn't come off, he's quite keen to play [for us], which is a benefit to us because both of our opening bowlers are missing." Caddick has been struggling with back and neck problems and has yet to feature for Somerset this season.
