Langer has been impressed by Somerset's one-day form
Justin Langer feels Somerset are right in the mix for Twenty20 Cup honours after the competition's opening stage.
Langer's side bounced back from losing to Worcestershire with a victory over previously unbeaten Northamptonshire to make it four wins from five games.
"It was a huge win," skipper Langer told BBC Somerset.
"And the important thing was that we had another win. We're going in the right direction and we've played really good one-day cricket all year."
Somerset beat the Mid/West/Wales Division leaders by 30 runs and are now two points off top spot, with leaders Northants yet to come to Taunton in the second stage of the competition, which resumes with a home match against Worcestershire on Tuesday, 23 June.
As well as a sparkling fielding display at Wantage Road, Langer was impressed with the way his side responded to their defeat the previous evening at Worcestershire.
"It was magnificent," he added. "It's great to see how people respond. The boys got a bit of a blast to be fair and they responded really well.
"Arul Suppiah didn't bat, didn't bowl but he was worth his place in the team for those two amazing catches.
"It was a really good effort and it's one thing having a bad game, but it's how you respond and we responded well."
Suppiah told BBC Somerset his efforts in the field lifted the team as they aspired to achieve "higher standards" across the board, but said there was still room for improvement when the action resumes.
"In Twenty20 it's important you fight for every ball. It just takes one or two balls to change the whole game and it's important we kept going," he said.
"I like Twenty20, it's very intense, but you've got to have fun and that's what we're doing.
"We've got the momentum and we have time to reflect on it and improve on what we can do."
