Charl Willoughby - ready for action whatever the weather |
Charl Willoughby has insisted that Somerset's cricketers do not mentally switch off when rain stops play. There was no play on the opening day of Somerset's match at home to Durham, as they chase a first ever championship. Seamer Willoughby told BBC Points West: "You've got to keep yourself ready to get out there at any moment. "Obviously you get a bit of time as the covers are coming off, but you've got to be as loose as you can be, whether it's batting or bowling." He continued: "It's still a tough day, it's not as pleasant as it looks just sitting in the changing room, you can't relax because you could be out there at any moment." Somerset went in to the Durham match in second place in the table trailing Nottinghamshire by just four points, but with a game in hand on the leaders. Willoughby said the bad weather could favour Somerset. "If it keeps raining here for the rest of the summer, we're going to win it so we don't mind if rains for the rest of the summer. "But we want to get as many points out of this game as we can, obviously other teams that are close to us are keeping an eye on what's happening here."
