Langer has been successful with the bat and as skipper in Taunton |
Somerset captain Justin Langer has shaken hands on a new contract to stay with the county for another year. The former Australia batsman took the club to the Division Two and NatWest Pro40 titles this year and his decision to stay means Cameron White will leave.
"It was a hard choice as Cameron's done tremendous things for us," said director of cricket Brian Rose.
"But his immediate future looks to be with Australia and the team have really benefited from Justin's leadership."
Langer, 36, was one of five Somerset players to score more than 1,000 first class runs this season, and Rose said Langer was happy with life on and off the pitch at the club.
"He and his family love the area and he has obviously enjoyed his cricket with us. We look forward to another successful season with him at the helm in 2008," he said.
"At the moment we are not looking beyond next season as far as Justin is concerned. We will play things by ear next summer and take it from there."
