Scotland captain Gavin Hamilton has played down a row with John Blain which led to the seamer withdrawing from their ICC World Twenty20 squad.
Warwickshire's Calum MacLeod comes in to replace Blain after Scotland's defeat by Bangladesh last Friday.
"Since I've been in charge I made it clear that some things had to be said after recent performances," Hamilton told BBC Scotland.
"John disagreed, and made it very clear that he didn't want to be here."
The tournament's event technical committee authorised the replacement and MacLeod, 20, joins up with Scotland for the event which runs from 5-21 June at Lord's, The Oval and Trent Bridge.
Scotland are due to open their campaign on Saturday against New Zealand at The Oval, then play South Africa the following day.
Hamilton played down any notion of a rift between the two players, insisting it was purely a disagreement over direction.
"If he didn't want to be here, who am I to stand in his way? That was all it was," said Hamilton.
"We're both good friends, and he made it clear that he disagreed on how we were going about things. He joined us on the Friday and left on the Friday night."
The Scots have lost warm-up games against West Indies and Bangladesh, while they take on England at Trent Bridge on Tuesday, followed by the Netherlands on Wednesday.
Now they must do so without former Yorkshire and Northants seamer Blain, Scotland's second-highest wicket-taker ever and a player tipped to be a future captain of the team.
The 30-year-old, who coaches at Yorkshire's youth academy, has played 116 times for Scotland, including two World Cups, taking 188 wickets for his country.
He also participated in the inaugural World T20 tournament two years ago.
Hamilton added: "We don't have the luxury of having played a lot of Twenty20 cricket, but we've had a fantastic few days down south warming up and we're improving in all areas, which is the crucial thing."
