Cricket Scotland are looking for a full-time coach for the national team with the job to helping them qualify for the next World Cup. To reach the 2007 tournament, they must finish in the top five at next year's ICC Trophy in Ireland.
And the successful candidate will be offered a fixed term contract to run until the end of September 2005.
Tony Judd, who currently coaches the team on a part-time basis, said the decision was "long overdue".
He has yet to decide whether to apply for the post but will remain in charge until the end of the year.
"I have enjoyed my time as national coach and believe I have achieved much with a superb group of players.
"I will continue to do everything I can to support the teams training and competition programme until the end of the year.
"When the post is advertised I will consider my options," Judd added.
The full-time post is being created with the help of investment from Sport Scotland and could continue beyond September 2005, subject to a review of the financial situation.
The Scotland team are currently preparing for their three-day ICC Intercontinental Cup semi-final against Kenya in the UAE later this month.
The winners will play the hosts or Canada in the final.
