Broad bowled England to victory against South Africa

Injured Nottinghamshire and England bowler Stuart Broad is targeting a return to action for the start of the domestic season in mid-April.

The seamer's World Cup came to an early end when he suffered a side strain during the win against South Africa.

Broad told BBC Radio Nottingham: "Side injuries for a bowler mean you are looking at five or six weeks out.

"It's important to get it right, look to the start of the season with Notts and try to get in the Test side."

Broad had only just returned to the England line-up after missing the final three Tests of England's Ashes victory this winter because of an abdominal tear.

The 24-year-old took two wickets in England's opening World Cup group game against the Netherlands, and although he went at more than seven an over in the shock defeat by Ireland, he gave a match-winning display in taking 4-15 in the stunning win over South Africa.

"It's bitterly frustrating having missed six weeks of the Ashes tour to then miss out on the World Cup as well," Broad added.

"But I have to look on the positives; it will keep me fresh for the English summer and we have got a huge summer with India and Sri Lanka coming over."

"We have an aim to be the best Test team in the world and beating India would certainly help us do that."

Nottinghamshire will begin the defence of their County Championship title at home to Hampshire on 14 April.
