Fast bowler Darren Pattinson is set to take his place in the Nottinghamshire bowling attack for the crucial County Championship showdown with Yorkshire.

Pattinson limped out of the loss to Durham with a sprained ankle but should be fit for the penultimate game, starting at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.

Notts are 22 points clear of Somerset in second spot and need 27 points from their last two games to win the title.

Yorkshire lie third, with a maximum of 24 points available per game.

But for every point dropped by Somerset, the Notts target comes down by the same amount.

All of which means that a maximum-points win this week - coupled with Somerset dropping three points - would see Notts crowned champions with a game to spare.

Notts director of cricket Mick Newell said: "Somerset are still in it but we have no control over how many points they will pick up whereas we have a lot of control over how many points Yorkshire will pick up so we won't concern ourselves with what is going on elsewhere.

"We've put the Durham fixture behind us and addressed any areas of concern and we're completely focused on Yorkshire.

"If we get four dry days then I am sure there will be a result in the game because the Trent Bridge pitches haven't been conducive to draws this season.

"The winner will be a strong position and the key battle for me will be our top order batsmen against a young Yorkshire seam attack."

Notts have Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and Ryan Sidebottom on international duty with England, and Charlie Shreck is injured.

Samit Patel is likely to open the batting alongside Alex Hales, with Mark Wagh and Adam Voges completing the top four.
