Newell's side have lost just once in Twenty20 this season |
Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell says Northants' inconsistent form in the FP t20 does not make them any less of a threat. Northants have won three of their seven matches, while Notts top the North Group with six wins from seven. Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "They've got Andrew Hall, Nicky Boje and also Chaminda Vaas, who is a good all-rounder in Twenty20 cricket. "Alex Wakely is a good young player, so we won't be underestimating them." Notts go into the game on the back of Sunday's 11-run victory at Durham, while Northants were surprisingly beaten by nine runs in a low-scoring game at home to Derbyshire. | 606: DEBATE |
"Their results are a bit mixed; they had a couple of wins last week, but have just lost to Derby in a low-scoring game. "It really is so hit and miss, this competition. Although we're playing nicely at the moment you never know with Northants what might turn up." Notts are three points clear of second-placed Warwickshire and five points clear of Derbyshire in fifth. The top four from each of the two groups qualify for the quarter-finals.
