Nottinghamshire v Somerset Venue: Trent Bridge Date: Wednesday, 21 April - Saturday 24 April Coverage: Live commentary and scorecard on BBC website
Broad has not played since returning from England's tour of Bangladesh |
England seam bowler Stuart Broad has asked to play for Nottinghamshire in this week's County Championship match against Somerset. Broad has been named in a 12-man squad for the game at Trent Bridge, starting on Wednesday. Notts' other centrally contracted England players Graeme Swann and Ryan Sidebottom are not available. Director of cricket Mick Newell said: "Stuart feels that he needs a game and wants to play against Somerset." He added: "We've been told that he will be available to us barring any last-minute knocks." Facing Somerset will give Broad his only match practice so far this summer before he flies out with England for the ICC World Twenty20, which starts in the West Indies at the end of the month. His inclusion will allow Notts to rest Darren Pattinson, who is short of match fitness following an ankle injury. Broad is likely to be a straight replacement for Sidebottom, who took four wickets as Nottinghamshire beat Kent by an innings and 32 runs in their opening County Championship match of the season.
