Captain Chris Read signs Nottinghamshire deal extension
Read averaged 75.18 with the bat in Championship cricket last summer
Nottinghamshire captain Chris Read has signed a three-year contract extension, keeping him at Trent Bridge until 2013.
Director of cricket Mick Newell said: "Chris approached us with a view to securing his future with an extended contract. We were very keen to oblige.
"He has matured as a captain and has a big part to play for us."
Wicketkeeper Read led Notts to second place in last summer's County Championship, top scoring with 1,203 first-class runs and taking 61 catches.
Newell added: "His wicketkeeping has always been exceptional and to have a number seven batsman who can bat at his standard is a huge asset to the team."
Read's new deal comes only days after all-rounder Samit Patel committed his future to the county.
"I didn't need any assurances before signing this deal because I share the views that are held around Trent Bridge about the right direction in which to move the team," said Read, who has played 15 Test matches for England.
"We've had two good years in the County Championship and we want to maintain our form whilst making significant improvement in the one-day competitions."
