Nottinghamshire have signed Netherlands-born Australian pace bowler Dirk Nannes to spearhead their domestic Twenty20 campaign next season. Nannes, who made his Australia Twenty20 debut against Scotland in August, was the key man in the Middlesex attack when they won the Twenty20 Cup in 2008. Notts director of cricket Mick Newell said: "I regard Dirk as the most effective Twenty20 bowler in the world. "He will be a great addition to our attack given his wealth of experience." Nannes is the all-time leading wicket-taker in Australia's domestic Twenty20 competition and was part of the Netherlands team that beat England in the opening game of the ICC World Twenty20. He represented Delhi Daredevils since the start of the Indian Premier League and played for them in the Champions League, having also qualified with Victoria Bushrangers. Newell added: "The likes of Ali Brown, David Hussey, Samit Patel, Alex Hales and Chris Read will give provide good depth to our Twenty20 batting line-up so bolstering the bowling unit was always going to be the priority when we were considering our recruitment plans. "Dirk has got good pace, he can bowl left-arm around the wicket and he bowls a good yorker, which will come into play at the end of the innings. "His achievements in the IPL underline his pedigree and we're signing him at the peak of his powers." Nannes said: "I'm ecstatic to have the opportunity to come and play for Nottinghamshire next year. "I have no doubt it will be a great season and I am looking forward to the challenge of trying to win another Twenty20 title."
