Samit Patel signs three-year deal at Nottinghamshire
All-rounder Patel has part-funded his trip to Australia
Nottinghamshire all-rounder Samit Patel has signed a three-year deal to stay at Trent Bridge until 2012.
Patel, 25, scored 712 County Championship runs last season after coming close to 1,000 runs in 2008.
He told the club website: "I need to play a senior role in the team and that means scoring runs consistently and taking regular wickets.
"I spent too much time obsessing about England when really I should be focused on doing well for Notts."
Patel struggled last season and was criticised by the England hierarchy for his lack of fitness.
In order to improve his performances for the 2010 season Patel is training at the Darren Lehmann academy in Adelaide over the next two months.
He added: "I know that I didn't show enough last year but this is a line in the sand and I'll come back from Australia fitter and better prepared for the new season."
