Newman will return to Surrey where he has a year on his deal |
Nottinghamshire will not be making opening batsman Scott Newman's loan spell from Surrey permanent. Newman made his debut for Notts in July, scoring 249 runs in 11 County Championship innings. Director of cricket Mick Newell said: "We've had a long look at Scott but we've decided not to pursue our interest any further." Newman will now return to The Oval, where he has one year remaining on his current contract. Newell said: "Scott made a decent contribution for us but Neil Edwards is joining us from Somerset and we want to give more responsibility to Alex Hales next season. "He [Hayles] is starting to show that he is a capable opening batsman in four-day cricket."
