Youngs eyes third win of season

Nottingham Rugby

Nottingham hooker Tom Youngs says he wants to bury the Green and Whites' opening day defeat with a win over Birmingham and Solihull on Saturday.

Nottingham started the campaign with a 24-13 defeat by Cornish Pirates but have since picked up two victories.

Youngs told BBC Radio Nottingham: "The most frustrating thing was knowing we played well below our best.

"So picking up the win against London Welsh and then Moseley last week has really got the show back on the road."

Youngs is now eager to get a third consecutive win when the sides meet this weekend at Meadow Lane.

"If we focus on ourselves I think we can score some tries and collect another five points from the game," he added.

"Birmingham and Solihull gave Bristol a run for their money and watching the video they did pretty well against London Welsh, so we're not taking them lightly at all."

I came to a point in my rugby career where I felt I wasn't getting any better at centre

The 39-year-old, who replaced fans' favourite Joe Duffey, has impressed director of rugby Glenn Delaney.

"Tom's throwing at the line-out has been outstanding and he has definitely been one of the stand out players so far on the pitch this season," said Delaney.

Youngs has made swift progress in his position since he was persuaded to switch from centre with the help of former Tigers head coach Heyneke Meyer a year ago.

"I came to a point in my rugby career where I felt I wasn't getting any better at centre," stated Youngs.

"The things I needed to improve on were not coming naturally and I realised with Heyneke's help that I'd be more suited to playing at hooker."

He has not been fazed by filling Duffey's shoes, who moved the other way to the Tigers in the summer.

"He's a fantastic player and helped me a lot when I came to Nottingham on loan last year," added Youngs.

"But I've just got into it and tried my best - hopefully I'm doing all right and the fans are happy."
