Delaney was impressed with his side's battling win |
Nottingham director of rugby Glenn Delaney was delighted with the 31-20 four-try Championship win at Moseley. He said: "Getting a bonus-point win at Moseley is difficult but we moved 17 unanswered points when we were up 21-3. "We lost composure and rose to a bit of niggle which didn't help but in the last 10 minutes we looked pretty good." First-half tries from David Jackson (2) and Tim Streather put Delaney's side in control and Tom Youngs' try sealed the win despite a Moseley fightback. The Green & Whites raced into the lead when Streather's break allowed Jackson to go over for an early converted try. Streather added the second five-pointer soon after and Jackson went over in the corner for his second of the afternoon to establish a 21-3 lead. | You only have to look at the cup final last year where they beat Leeds at Twickenham, to know Moseley can be a very good side |
The home side hit back however. A penalty try, which saw Nic Rouse sin-binned, and a further score from Neil Mason left them trailing by just four points at the interval. But a full-strength Nottingham regrouped and closed out the match late on. Youngs went over after good work by the pack and Tim Taylor added a drop goal. Delaney added: "We got the driving game going and it shut the game down, so a bit of dominance there got us through. "It's always nice to get a five-pointer with the four tries - it's good to see. "Moseley scored a couple of good tries but they are regrouping at the moment after a couple of big losses. "It was another hard game for them but we know how good they can be. "Every time we go to Billesley it's a close game that we know could go either way until the very end - we just came off right this year." Nottingham face the Birmingham and Solihull Bees at Meadow Lane on Sunday.
