Wagh has a first-class average of 36 this season |
Nottinghamshire batsman Mark Wagh faces a race against time to be fit for the County Championship match at Somerset which begins on Friday. The former Warwickshire player injured his hip while fielding in the draw with Yorkshire last week. Director of cricket Mick Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's a bit of a hip problem so we need to get him fit for Taunton. "Mark is one of our more consistent batsmen at the moment." Wagh has scored 644 first-class runs this season for Notts and Newell believes he is a key player in his side. "We've got to look at the performances of some of the other batsmen. They're the ones under pressure as we've brought in a new opening batsman," he added. Last week, Notts signed Surrey opener Scott Newman on loan for an initial one month. Newman is expected to make his debut at Taunton on Friday.
