Sidebottom played for Notts 24 hours after representing England |
Ryan Sidebottom is desperate to play a part in the rest of Nottinghamshire's Twenty20 campaign and get in as many overs as possible ahead of the Ashes. The England bowler had been plagued by injuries until returning to action in May and is eager to find his best form. Notts have four Twenty20 Cup games at Trent Bridge next week, starting against Yorkshire on Monday, 22 June. Sidebottom said: "I want to play in the Ashes and there's no substitute for playing matches to maintain fitness." The 31-year-old asked the England and Wales Cricket Board for permission to play in the Friends Provident Trophy match against Gloucestershire on Tuesday - less than 24 hours after England were knocked out of the World Twenty20. "If I got the chance to play in a couple of the Twenty20 Cup games I would snap it up," he added. As well as their tie with Yorkshire, Notts play Leicestershire Foxes on Wednesday, 24 June, Derbyshire Phantoms on Friday, 26 June and Lancashire Lightning on Sunday, 28 June. England begin the five-Test Ashes series against Australia in early July.
