Adam Voges is in his first full season as Nottinghamshire's overseas player |
Nottinghamshire are talking to Australian David Hussey about returning to Trent Bridge on a temporary basis. Notts will soon lose Adam Voges for five weeks. He has been named as vice-captain for Australia A's home series against Pakistan. Director of cricket Mick Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We'll start talking to David to see if he's interested in coming back." Voges will miss two County Championship and several Twenty20 matches. He has been in excellent form so far this season, and Newell said: "One-day cricket was definitely the stronger side of his game last year, but this year his four-day cricket is on top form." "We need to make the most of him in the two games before he goes back." | He is our preferred choice |
Ironically, as Notts search for a replacement, Hussey has returned to Nottingham with Australia for the World Twenty20. Newell has met Hussey, and said: "I think he'd like to come back. I think he enjoyed his time here. "We'd be more than happy to welcome him back if it could be done." Hussey is not included in Australia's Ashes squad, so could be available from the end of the World Twenty20. Newell believes Cricket Australia are happy for Hussey to stay in England after the World Cup, but says there are still issues to be addressed. "He is our preferred choice, but first of all we have to agree a deal with him, and then we have to satisfy the immigration authorities that he's staying in the country for cricketing reasons."
