Newell expects an exciting finale

Mick Newell
Notts have not won any silverware since the 2005 County Championship

Nottinghamshire director of cricket Mick Newell says he is expecting an exciting end to the season.

Newell's men are one of four clubs that can still win the County Championship going into the final round of games.

A win over Hampshire at Trent Bridge will secure the title and Newell told BBC Radio Nottingham his side's fate was in their own hands.

"It's great to play the last game at home and we've got to make sure we play to our maximum potential," he said.

Somerset, Durham and Nottinghamshire's own opponents Hampshire are the other teams still in the hunt, and Newell added: "You've got four teams that can win the Championship now and four that can get relegated, so in all the matches there is something to play for.

"They'll be no soft games, teams will be desperate to win. If we win, though, it doesn't matter what happens anywhere else."
