Nottinghamshire will start the search for another overseas player, after announcing that Indian batting star VVS Laxman will not be joining the county. His spell at Trent Bridge had been in doubt after the Board of Control for Cricket in India objected to the Notts players in the Indian Cricket League. He had been expected to arrive after Nottinghamshire received a No Objection Certificate from the BCCI. But the BCCI has subsequently withdrawn the NOC by e-mail. Notts director of cricket Mick Newell said: "We followed correct procedures to complete the deal with the approval of the BCCI and it is extremely disappointing that they have reversed their stance. "We were very surprised to learn about the possibility of the deal collapsing in the media in the first instance. "The players, management and supporters were looking forward to VVS joining Notts and now we have to pursue alternative players. "We've identified our targets and we're hopeful that we will be able to secure a signature in the coming weeks." Laxman's absence is a further blow to Notts, who also need cover for Australian batsman Adam Voges. Notts currently lead Division One of the County Championship and also head the early table in the top flight of the Pro40 competition.
